The Department of Energy (DoE), in partnership with the College of Engineering of the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP), conducted a Symposium on Nuclear Energy on September 24, 2025, with the theme, “Steering the Academe Towards Careers in Nuclear Energy: Sympossium on Nuclear Energy for Students and Faculty,” to promote greater awareness and understanding of nuclear energy as part of the country’s long-term energy development strategy. The event provided participants with factual insights on nuclear technologies, policies, safety measures, and the potential role of nuclear energy in supporting the Philippines’ energy security and sustainability goals.

The symposium aligns with USeP’s goals to advancing education and research in energy-related fields and supports the DoE’s mandate to inform the public about the opportunities and implications of nuclear energy. A total of 500 participants attended the event, including 400 from USeP, 50 from Ateneo de Davao University, and 50 from Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (MMCM). Attendees engaged in lectures and discussions led by expert resource speakers, fostering deeper dialogue on the future of nuclear energy in the country. “Let us not only carry with us the knowledge gained in this sympossium but also the responsibility to help find solutions that balance innovation, safety, and sustainability,” emphasized by Dr. Dalia M. Reconalla, Dean of USeP-CoE in her closing remarks. The event concluded with a collective call to continue strengthening public awareness, academic involvement, and inter-agency collaboration as the Philippines explores nuclear energy as part of its evolving energy landscape.
