The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) Mintal Campus marked National Fire Prevention Month with a one-day Fire Safety and Prevention Orientation on March 18, 2026, at the Mintal Gym. The event gathered campus personnel and student leaders for a hands-on learning experience on fire safety and emergency response.
This initiative supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being by promoting a safe and healthy learning and working environment through the prevention of fire-related injuries and emergencies; SDG 4: Quality Education by providing relevant safety education and practical training to personnel and student leaders; and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by strengthening disaster preparedness and resilience within the campus and its surrounding community.
Organized by the University Risk Reduction and Management Unit (URRMU), the activity aimed to raise awareness of common causes of fire, deepen understanding of fire classifications and appropriate extinguishers, and reinforce each participantโs personal responsibility in preventing fire incidents within the campus. Facilitators from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Mintal Fire Station, FO2 Philam J. T. Concon and FO1 Leiverier A. Habana II, led the sessions and demonstrations, drawing from their field experience to contextualize fire risks in workplaces and school environments.
In the latter part of the program, the focus shifted from classroom learning to practical application through a fire drill, simulation activities, and a fire suppression demonstration at the campus grounds. Under the guidance of FO2 Concon and FO1 Habana II, participants practiced the proper handling of fire extinguishers and executed basic fire suppression techniques, building confidence to respond to real-life fire emergencies.
