There is beauty in every religion when their principles align with the goodness of humanity.
Beyond books, journals, and traditional classroom discussions, the essence of learning continues through experiencing real-world cultures. Amidst the cold, rainy afternoon of February 26, 2026, students, faculty, and staff came together in Room 209-210 of the ๐‚๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐ ๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐€๐ซ๐ญ๐ฌ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐’๐œ๐ข๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž๐ฌ (๐‚๐€๐’) building to witness the tradition and significance of the ๐‘๐š๐ฆ๐š๐๐š๐ง and the ๐๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฌ๐š๐ฆ๐จ๐ซ๐จ ๐œ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž in person as the ๐”๐’๐ž๐ ๐๐š๐›๐ฎ๐ค๐š continues in its second year.

The season of ๐‘๐š๐ฆ๐š๐๐š๐ง is a moment of reflection and prayer for the ๐Œ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฌ as they live and abide by the teachings in the ๐๐ฎ๐ซ’๐š๐ง, reaffirming their faith and giving thanks to ๐€๐ฅ๐ฅ๐š๐ก for His grace. Following its successful run last year, the ๐”๐’๐ž๐ ๐๐š๐›๐ฎ๐ค๐š continues to spread knowledge about the Islamic way of life as a testament of the Universityโ€™s commitment towards an inclusive education, bringing the ๐Œ๐ข๐ง๐๐š๐ง๐š๐จ๐š๐ง ๐œ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž closer for the people to see its wonders. It has since broadened its audience, inviting more students who showed interest in partaking in an enlightening conversation.
As the students waited for the ๐Œ๐š๐ ๐ก๐ซ๐ข๐› (๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ง๐ฌ๐ž๐ญ) to come through, they took every lecture as an opportunity to take notes and listen eagerly in silence, deepening their knowledge about Islam. This time, two Muslim scholars willingly took the time to impart their knowledge on the significance of ๐‘๐š๐ฆ๐š๐๐š๐ง and the ๐๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฌ๐š๐ฆ๐จ๐ซ๐จ ๐œ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž, aiming to break the stereotypes by correcting the common misconceptions about the religion in this life-changing activity.

He shares that, while Ramadan is still meant to test our faith, obedience, and discipline by discernment and resistance against the temptation of sin, there are a few exceptions that may allow people to not fast due to some circumstances, showing the merciful side of the religion. Even so, he reminds everyone about the true spirit of Ramadan, that it is not only an act of obedience, but also an act of gratitude for His guidance.
โ€œAng tunay na diwa why we are fasting in the month of Ramadan, we are happy and celebrating that in this month, guidance is available for humanity (The true spirit behind our fasting in the month of Ramadan is because we are happy and we are celebrating that in this month, guidance is available for humanity),โ€ he said.
Meanwhile, ๐”๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐๐ก๐š ๐๐ฎ๐ซ-๐€๐ข๐ง๐ž๐ž ๐“๐š๐ง ๐‹๐ข๐ฆ, who served the Bangsamoro community as a ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฉ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฒ ๐Œ๐ข๐ง๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐’๐จ๐œ๐ข๐š๐ฅ ๐’๐ž๐ซ๐ฏ๐ข๐œ๐ž๐ฌ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ƒ๐ž๐ฏ๐ž๐ฅ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ, shares that the necessity of an independent government in the ๐๐€๐‘๐Œ๐Œ region aligns itself with the Islamic values of justice, mercy, accountability, integrity, and service to the vulnerable that the community needs. She also reminds the interfaith community to uphold the Islamic faith and humanitarian values by holding ourselves accountable in all our actions, not only for the family or for the community, but also for Allah.
โ€œWhat you practice, you preach, and what you preach, you practice. What you intend, you do, and what you do, you intend,โ€ she said.
The ๐๐š๐›๐ฎ๐ค๐š became a perfect opportunity for everyone to open their minds and reflect on these lessons as the speakers took the time to address some relevant questions from the audience, such as seeking forgiveness and the moral dilemma of children in Muslim families. In return, the audience also expressed their appreciation towards the speakers for enlightening everyone about the goodness of Islam.
What makes this yearโ€™s event more interesting lies in its timely coincidence: as both the ๐‘๐š๐ฆ๐š๐๐š๐ง and the ๐‹๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ง ๐ฌ๐ž๐š๐ฌ๐จ๐ง started in the same month this year, witnessing a moment that happens once in a blue moon becomes more meaningful to ponder into the significance of their shared values. Besides respecting each otherโ€™s cultures and traditions, many religious leaders have been calling for an interfaith dialogue, prayer, and reflection between ๐Œ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฌ and ๐‚๐ก๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐š๐ง๐ฌ despite the striking differences in their beliefs.
At 5:51 PM, everyone stood together in solemnity when the ๐›๐š๐ง๐  (call to prayer) came, which marks the end of fasting. Many non-Muslim members joined in solidarity as our Muslim brothers and sisters expressed their sincere devotion towards Allah, uniting everyone through prayer and thanksgiving. This was followed by the ๐ˆ๐Ÿ๐ญ๐š๐ซ, which was generously prepared as an ๐š๐œ๐ญ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐ฌ๐š๐๐š๐ช๐š๐ก (๐œ๐ก๐š๐ซ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ) through the ๐Ž๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ข๐œ๐ž ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐Œ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐๐š๐ซ๐ฅ๐ข๐š๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐‘๐ž๐๐ก๐š ๐ˆ. ๐Œ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฎ๐š๐ซ๐ข, in collaboration with ๐”๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐๐ก ๐„๐ข๐ฌ๐š ๐‰๐š๐ฏ๐ข๐ž๐ซ, ๐€๐ฌ๐ฌ๐จ๐œ. ๐๐ซ๐จ๐Ÿ. ๐’๐š๐ฃ๐ž๐ ๐’. ๐ˆ๐ง๐ ๐ข๐ฅ๐š๐ง, and ๐Œ๐ซ. ๐…๐ซ๐š๐ง๐œ๐ข๐ฌ ๐. ๐‘๐ž๐ ๐ข๐ง๐ข๐จ, symbolizing the Islamic duty of charity and service to others.
As the ๐‹๐’๐’ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ took charge of the food distribution, everyone lined up outside the room, waiting patiently for the food to be served. Excitement was written all over each otherโ€™s faces, curious about the variety of Bangsamoro delicacies and what each of it tastes like. Thereโ€™s the signature ๐ญ๐ข๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐š๐ก ๐ข๐ญ๐ฎ๐ฆ, the creamy chicken in white sauce, the twisty flavor of spicy mango chicken, the ๐ฉ๐ข๐ฒ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ ๐š๐ง๐  ๐ฆ๐š๐ง๐ฎ๐ค, the savory beef rendang, the beef caldereta, the garlic shrimp, the mixed seafood, and the tuna fish fillet. There were also well-known Tausug glutinous delicacies such as ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฅ๐ข ๐ฆ๐š๐ง๐๐ข, ๐ฉ๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐ฌ, and ๐ญ๐š๐›๐ข๐-๐ญ๐š๐›๐ข๐, and fruits such as watermelon and grapes, which added more delight to the cuisine. While everyone had their fill of the meal with laughter and amazement, ๐”๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐๐ก ๐„๐ข๐ฌ๐š ๐‰๐š๐ฏ๐ข๐ž๐ซ, together with ๐๐ซ๐จ๐Ÿ. ๐ˆ๐ง๐ ๐ข๐ฅ๐š๐ง and ๐Ÿ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฐ ๐Œ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฆ ๐›๐ซ๐จ๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ, remained in the room and prayed the ๐Œ๐š๐ ๐ก๐ซ๐ข๐› ๐ฉ๐ซ๐š๐ฒ๐ž๐ซ together using the ๐“๐š๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐  ๐›๐š๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฒ (๐ฆ๐š๐ญ), all while surrounded in peaceful silence.
The core message of the ๐๐š๐›๐ฎ๐ค๐š celebration reminds us that Islam is not the kind of religion most people paint them to be; rather, it is a religion that respects humanity and embodies mercy, compassion, justice, and fairness towards everyone, especially the poor and needy, no matter their culture or social status. Through this immersive experience, it is now our responsibility to embrace diversity within the multicultural Philippines and to spread the word that we can co-exist with each other no matter what we believe, for we are meant to exist in this world full of love and kindness, bringing each other to a close spiritual relationship with our Creator.
