MALit students celebrate ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก ๐๐๐๐ through artistic presentation showcasing the arts, culture, and literary genres.
In celebration of ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก ๐๐๐๐, first-year Master of Arts in Literature (MALit) students expressed their understanding and appreciation of literature as cultural art through spoken poetry, storytelling, dramatic performances, and literary and cultural exhibits. This celebration was held on February 28, 2026, at the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Building, USeP Obrero Campus.
๐๐๐ ๐๐ข๐๐ฎ๐ก๐จ: โ๐๐ค๐๐ญ๐๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ฌ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ข๐ญ๐๐ซ๐๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ ๐๐ฌ ๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐๐ฅ ๐๐ฑ๐ฉ๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ,โ the event , highlighted literatureโs role in reflecting national memory, fostering global dialogue, and honoring Indigenous identity. The students presented their ekphrastic poetry inspired by a mural of ๐๐ซ๐๐ก๐ข๐ ๐๐๐ฅ๐จ๐ฌ at ๐๐๐ฏ๐๐จ ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐ข๐ ๐ก ๐๐๐ก๐จ๐จ๐ฅ, portraying two Indigenous women wearing traditional woven garments and accessories that symbolize their cultural identity while reflecting themes of history, knowledge, and the struggles faced by marginalized communities. Oclos, is a โstreet artist with a fine arts degree,โ known for his murals centered on social issues, particularly those under the eyes of the oppressors. Through poetry, the students lend a voice to the voicelessโspeaking for them, with them, and through them with conviction and empathy that are deeply felt by the audience.
The said event was opened with warmth and festivity attended by ๐๐ซ. ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฅ๐จ ๐๐๐ง๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐ฎ who led the ribbon cutting ceremony to officially commence the event along with the CAS Associate Dean ๐๐ซ. ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ฅ ๐. ๐๐๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐จ, who delivered the welcome remarks. ๐๐ซ. ๐๐๐ซ๐ค ๐๐จ๐๐ฅ ๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐ณ, ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ญ. ๐๐ซ๐จ๐. ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐๐ฉ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ฒ ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ ๐. ๐
๐๐ฆ๐จ๐ฌ๐จ, and ๐๐ซ. ๐๐๐ง๐ง๐๐ญ๐ก ๐๐ฎ๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐ซ๐ were present as well. The MALit students exceeded expectations by also showing creativity, spectacle, and thought-provoking presentations that left the audience in awe and sparked engaging discussions.
The celebration featured a wide range of performances and exhibits that highlighted both classical and indigenous literary traditions. Among the dramatics presentations were ๐ด๐๐๐ ๐จ๐๐๐๐๐’๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ (๐ซ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ฉ๐๐๐๐๐) from ๐ฑ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ช๐๐๐๐๐ and ๐ฏ๐๐๐๐๐’๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ from ๐ฏ๐๐๐๐๐ by ๐พ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐บ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ alongside ๐บ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐ฒ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, performed by ๐๐๐ฅ๐ญ ๐๐๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ซ ๐๐๐ฆ๐ฌ๐จ๐ง, ๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ง ๐

An Indigenous Cultural Exhibit titled: ๐๐๐โ๐ข๐: ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ฐ๐จ๐ฏ๐๐ง ๐๐จ๐๐ข๐๐ฅ ๐
๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐ ๐จ๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐๐จ ๐๐จ๐๐ข๐๐ญ๐ฒ was presented by ๐๐ฆ๐๐ซ ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐ง ๐๐๐ฌ๐ข๐ฆ, ๐๐ฒ๐ณ๐ก๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐๐ฌ๐๐๐ซ๐๐, ๐๐๐ณ๐๐ฅ ๐๐จ๐ฒ ๐

In the visual arts category, ๐๐๐ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ง๐จโs sculpture โ๐๐ฒ๐๐ซ๐ข๐,โ presented by ๐๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐
๐ฎ๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ฌ demonstrated innovative artistic expression grounded in the socio-cultural issue of the mixing of heritage amongst the Mindanao people. ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐ฅ๐ฆ๐จ also proudly introduced her soil panting, โAndig.โ The celebration concluded with a remarkable storytelling performance of โ๐๐ฉ๐ข๐ฅ๐,โ a Mandaya folklore, brought to life by ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐๐ ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฌ, ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐๐๐๐ญ๐ก ๐๐ฎ๐ฆ๐๐๐, and ๐๐ก๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ง๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐๐ณ๐จ๐ง, further underscoring the richness of Mindanaoโs oral traditions.
๐๐ซ. ๐๐๐ง๐ง๐๐ญ๐ก ๐๐ฎ๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐ซ๐ concluded the program by congratulating the students for their outstanding performances and delivering an inspiring message emphasizing that literature is an art form that actively engages with and addresses societal issues. The MALit students commemorated the ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ก ๐๐๐๐ by showcasing diverse performances and creative works that honored the plurality of literary voices from Mindanao and beyond. The celebration served not only as an appreciation of global and local artists but also as a reminder that literature mirrors lived experiences, cultural complexities, and traditions that shape one’s cultural identity. It is more than just a celebration, the event became a testament that literature remains not only as an artistic expression but serves as a catalyst for social change.
