UP Mindanao Library benchmarks USeP School of Medicine Learning Resource Center, strengthens academic collaborations

Strengthening academic partnerships and advancing innovative library services, the University of the Philippines Mindanao Library conducted a benchmarking activity at the USeP School of Medicine Learning Resource Center on May 26, 2026, at USeP TMC, Tagum Unit.

The activity brought together key library personnel from both institutions. Representing USeP TMC were Campus Librarian Dr. Winda B. Cejas and the USeP TMC-LRC staff. The UP Mindanao delegation was led by University Librarian Dr. Estela R. Dequito, accompanied by Technical Services Librarian Ms. Merlyn P. Castaneros, Circulation Services Librarian Ms. Divina T. Labiao, and Senior Library Assistant Mr. Francis L. Tejada.

During the benchmarking session, both institutions exchanged insights, best practices, and operational strategies for managing modern learning resource centers. Discussions highlighted the establishment and development of the School of Medicine Learning Resource Center, focusing on collection management systems, digital learning resources, student-centered services, research support mechanisms, and adaptive library practices aligned with the needs of medical education.

The dialogue also explored innovations in library administration, cataloging systems, space utilization, and the integration of technology-driven services to enhance accessibility and learning experiences for students and faculty. Participants shared experiences in overcoming resource management challenges, strengthening institutional collaborations, and transforming libraries into dynamic knowledge hubs that foster academic excellence and research productivity.

The benchmarking activity underscored the evolving role of libraries beyond traditional book repositories, positioning them as active partners in instruction, research, and lifelong learning. Through collaboration and knowledge-sharing, both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to building responsive, inclusive, and future-ready academic support systems.

Aligned with Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), the activity emphasized the importance of collaborative learning, institutional networking, and innovation in expanding access to quality education and academic resources.

More than a professional exchange, the benchmarking activity reflected a shared vision between the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) and the University of the Philippines Mindanao (UP Mindanao): to cultivate learning environments that empower students, advance research, and inspire academic communities to adapt and thrive in an evolving educational landscape. Through partnerships anchored on excellence and service, both institutions continue to redefine the role of libraries in shaping future-ready education.
