The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP), through the Research and Development Division (RDD), successfully conducted the Workshop on Packaging Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Materials for R&D Initiatives on September 10, 2025, via Zoom. Anchored on the theme “Translating Research into Impact: Strengthening Visibility, Accessibility, and Policy Influence through IEC Materials,” the activity aimed to capacitate faculty, non-teaching personnel, and research staff in preparing IEC materials that bridge academic outputs to stakeholders, policymakers, industries, and communities.

Opening the virtual workshop, Dr. Roger C. Montepio, Vice President for RDE, underscored the importance of packaging research into accessible forms, stressing that knowledge only becomes transformative when effectively communicated to the people it intends to serve.

The technical sessions provided both conceptual grounding and practical tools for participants. Mr. Robert C. Satorre, University Records Officer, discussed diverse media and strategies for research dissemination, highlighting how appropriate platforms expand visibility and accessibility. This was followed by Mr. Armando Jr. S. Adlawan, Information Officer II of the Public Affairs Division, who emphasized the integration of USeP’s visual branding elements to ensure consistency and credibility in research-based IEC outputs. Mr. Kevin C. Viray, EPS II of RDD, then presented the institutional guidelines and requirements for IEC submission, providing clarity on compliance and standards set by the University.

The momentum carried into the afternoon session with a hands-on workshop where participants developed draft IEC materials based on their ongoing or completed research. The session allowed them to apply skills in designing brochures, flyers, policy briefs, infographics, and multimedia formats. Selected outputs were later presented during the feedback session, where constructive comments were provided.

The activity concluded with Dr. Merlina H. Juruena, RDD Director, commending the participants’ active engagement and reiterating that IEC materials are not mere add-ons, but vital instruments for ensuring research visibility, societal impact, and policy relevance.

Beyond just capacity building, the workshop underscored USeP’s dedication to transform knowledge into impact, empowering researchers to translate findings into innovations that shape policies and uplift communities.
