Eight students from the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) participated in the Regional Conference on Students Activism (RECONSA 2025) held at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, Seri Iskandar, Perak, Malaysia on January 17-20, 2025.
The USeP delegation included Ms. Chrisly Mae P. Bumaya, Ms. Kyle R. Pasilbas, and Mr. Jem Gabriel T. Guinoo (all 3rd year Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English students), Ms. Aubrey Bacalso (3rd year Bachelor in Technical-Vocational Teacher Education student), Mr. John Romel Espinosa (2nd year Bachelor of Special Needs Education (BSNED) student), Ms. Kyla Lastimosa (4th-year BSNEd student) from USeP Tagum-Mabini campus; Mr. Ruel E. Igbalic Jr. and Mr. Jhon Christian V. Manlangit (both 3rd year BS in Development Anthropology students), from USeP Mintal campus. The group was accompanied and guided by Dr. Alther M. Rivera and Dr. Lilibeth A. Cenojas, faculty members from the College of Education.
The conference centered on the theme: “Cultivating Sustainable Volunteerism: Serve, Sustain, Synergize,” emphasized the importance of volunteerism in driving sustainable social change. Over four days, students from various Southeast Asian countries gathered to share their experiences as volunteers, present their innovative volunteerism projects, establish cross-cultural networks, and explore collaborative efforts for social impact. A highlight of the event was a tree-planting activity, where participants contributed to environmental preservation by planting trees, which serve as carbon sinks to mitigate climate change. This initiative reflected the conference’s commitment to addressing environmental challenges through collective action.
USeP’s participation in RECONSA 2025 underscores its dedication to nurturing globally aware and socially responsible students. By engaging in international platforms like this, USeP students continue to embody the University’s vision of transforming lives and communities.
