cmsmasters_divider_width_short cmsmasters_divider_pos_center\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"cmsmasters_text\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The University of Southeastern Philippines School of Law (USeP-SoL) was established in 2019 as the first state-run law school in the Davao region. With a focus on quality and affordability, the School of Law offers the Juris Doctor (JD) Degree, enabling students to develop holistically and contribute to the less-privileged.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Aligned with USeP\u2019s vision of becoming a premier research university in the ASEAN, the JD program includes a thesis course aimed at influencing local and national policies. Furthermore, an internship in government agencies or non-government organizations allows students to apply their classroom learning in practice.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"cmsmasters_row_j68aaael69\" class=\"cmsmasters_row cmsmasters_color_scheme_default cmsmasters_row_top_default cmsmasters_row_bot_default cmsmasters_row_boxed\">\n<div class=\"cmsmasters_row_outer_parent\">\n<div class=\"cmsmasters_row_outer\">\n<div class=\"cmsmasters_row_inner\">\n<div class=\"cmsmasters_row_margin\">\n<div id=\"cmsmasters_column_xwdzv93p5p\" class=\"cmsmasters_column one_third\">\n<div class=\"cmsmasters_column_inner\"><div id=\"cmsmasters_heading_4hgo1t21rm\" class=\"cmsmasters_heading_wrap cmsmasters_heading_align_center\">\n\t<h2 class=\"cmsmasters_heading\">Mandate<\/h2>\n<\/div><div class=\"cmsmasters_text\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In 2019, pursuant to Republic Act No. 7662 or the Legal Education Reform Act of 1993, the Legal Education Board (LEB) granted the University a Government Permit to conduct and operate first year level classes of the Juris Doctor Thesis Program in its Obrero Campus for academic year 2019-2020 [Resolution No. 114-07 adopted during the 114th Meeting of the LEB on 4 June 2019]. Thus, the University of Southeastern Philippines School of Law (USeP SoL), the first state-run law school in the Davao region, was established.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Beginning Academic Year 2025-2026, pursuant to LEB Memorandum Order No. 036 series of 2025, USeP-SoL is now officially authorized to offer the ladderized Master of Legal Studies-Juris Doctor (MLS-JD) program. The MLS-JD program of the USeP-SoL emphasizes an understanding of law in context, especially of legal pluralism, and aims to encourage a broad outlook on legal issues, particularly those relating to indigenous peoples including Shari\u2019a Law. The program underscores the alignment of the MLS-JD curriculum to the dynamic needs of legal professionals and stakeholders in the Davao Region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Moreover, the curriculum of the MLS-JD Program of USeP-SoL is harmonized with the requirements of the Commission on Higher Education [CHED Memorandum Order No. 15, Series of 2019 on Policies, Standards and Guidelines for Graduate Programs under the Masters Non-Thesis Professional Track] such that graduates of the MLS program of USeP-SoL are qualified to proceed to doctorate studies in other non-law or related academic disciplines.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div id=\"cmsmasters_column_dle63vn0p5\" class=\"cmsmasters_column two_third\">\n<div class=\"cmsmasters_column_inner\"><div id=\"cmsmasters_heading_9v8494528\" class=\"cmsmasters_heading_wrap cmsmasters_heading_align_center\">\n\t<h2 class=\"cmsmasters_heading\">Objectives<\/h2>\n<\/div><div class=\"cmsmasters_text\">\n<p>The Juris Doctor Thesis Program of the USeP School of Law is designed to teach students how to understand and critically analyze the rules and institutions which society establishes to secure and promote justice, order, and peace. It emphasizes an understanding of law in context. It also aims to encourage a broad outlook on legal issues, to understand the functions of law and the legal system, and to appreciate the place of rules of law in the construction of politics and society. Further, it seeks to explore key issues of fundamental importance to society using the lens of conflict-sensitivity and conflict transformation to generate new and actionable knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>Particularly, the Juris Doctor Thesis Program of the USeP SoL has the following program objectives:<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<p>i. To impart among law students a broad knowledge of law and its various fields and of legal institutions;<br \/>\nii. To enhance the legal research abilities of law students to enable them to analyze, articulate and apply the law effectively, as well as to allow them to have a holistic approach to legal problems and issues;<br \/>\niii. To prepare law students for advocacy, counselling, problem-solving and decision-making, and to develop their ability to deal with recognized legal problems of the present and the future;<br \/>\niv. To develop competence in any field of law as is necessary for gainful employment or sufficient as a foundation for future training beyond the basic professional degree, and to develop in the law students the desire and capacity for continuing study and self-improvement;<br \/>\nv. To inculcate in the law students the ethics and responsibilities of the legal profession; and<br \/>\nvi. To produce lawyers who conscientiously pursue the lofty goals of their profession and to fully adhere to its ethical norms.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, consistent with the outcomes-based education framework of the University [USeP Philippine Quality Awards Application Report under Organizational Description; 2023], the Juris Doctor Thesis Program of the USeP SoL has program graduate outcomes mapped across its curriculum related to the following program attributes:<\/p>\n<p>i. Knowledge and Understanding;<br \/>\nii. Critical Thinking;<br \/>\niii. Communication, Leadership and Collaboration;<br \/>\niv. Research Skills and Contemporary Tool Usage;<br \/>\nv. Ethical Values and Professional and Global Competence;<br \/>\nvi. Service-Oriented;<br \/>\nvii. Self-Management and Life-long Learning; and<br \/>\nviii. Development of Conflict-Sensitive and Conflict-Transformative Solutions.<\/p>\n<p>The USeP School of Law provides a different approach in learning and unlearning to be at the forefront of the standards in legal education. Its Juris Doctor Thesis Program includes a thesis that would eventually feed into government agencies or to local or national Congress to become a policy. The curriculum is also replete with elective subjects that are meant to increase the law students\u2019 understanding of, exposure with, and commitment to social justice principles. Moreover, the law program includes an internship to afford a contextualized legal education.
