On July 28, 2026, the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) Gender and Development (GAD) Office strengthened its commitment to building safer, more inclusive, and gender-responsive communities through coordination visits to Barangays 17-B, 18-B, and 20-B.

Led by GAD Director Sir Genesely R. Tahoy, the team engaged with barangay officials to discuss the proposed partnerships and the shared responsibility of advancing the implementation of the Safe Spaces Act. The discussions focused on strengthening community support and ensuring appropriate and timely responses to concerns involving USeP students within the barangays’ respective jurisdictions.

In Barangay 17, led by Barangay Captain Gamulo, the barangay expressed full support for the initiative and designated an Assistant Secretary as its focal person for coordination with the University. Meanwhile, Barangay 20, represented by Kagawad Ricardo Pelegrino and Barangay Secretary Carmelita Maningo, affirmed its readiness to provide immediate assistance and appropriate action when needed.

In Barangay 18, Barangay Captain Wilma Lozada likewise expressed strong support for the proposed partnership and her commitment to the initiative. She also looked forward to the follow-up meeting involving Barangays 17 and 20, in coordination with PNP Bajada, highlighting the importance of sustained collaboration among community partners.

The discussions also emphasized the need to strengthen referral mechanisms, establish accessible communication channels, and maintain close coordination among USeP, the barangays, the VAWC Desk, and PNP Bajada. More than a coordination visit, the initiative reaffirmed that creating safe spaces is a shared responsibility. Through stronger partnerships, open communication, and collective action, USeP and its community partners continue to work toward a safer, more inclusive, and gender-responsive community for all.
